Introduction
These mini lessons present a classical commentary or midrash on Torah. Questions for discussion or other notes to help frame a discussion are included.
These lessons can be used in a variety of ways:
- For children's or adult learning: formal or lishma (for its own sake) .
- For classes where teachers want to engage students with the parasha but don't have time to teach the whole texts. These lessons focus in on one point that is engaging yet accessible.
- Can be the kernel of an idea the teacher or other students would develop.
- Can be used as the primary text in a TorahQuest lesson.
We invite you to contribute a Torah Mini Lesson that you have created. To submit a lesson please e-mail Shai at sgluskin@jrf.org. Good sources in English for finding midrashim about the Torah portion include:
- The Book of Legends Sefer Ha-Aggadah: Legends from the Talmud and Midrash by Hayyim Nahman Bialik
- Legends of the Jews, by Louis Ginzburg
- Chumash with Targum Onkelos, Haphtaroth and Rashi's Commentary translated into English and annotated by Rabbi A.M. Silbermann
- The Classic Tales by Ellen Frankel
