Logo From the Talmud
The logo for the items that contain written commentary is from the opening page from the Talmud from the section (masekhet in Hebrew) called Baba Metzia, The Middle Gate. The images below show the Talmud to be a multilayered text. There are two primary texts in the middle column surrounded by ever expanding layers around.
The first word from this section is Shnayim, "two". The section starts, "When two grab a garment and each claim it as theirs..." This section, which deals with many kinds of conflict over ownership, was traditionally the first section of Talmud studied by new initiates to Talmud.
It's selection as the logo as a symbol for commentary on this site has to do with the prominence of the word "two." Parents and kids engaged in hevruta, in groups of two, to pore over the text and attempt to find its meaning and relevance. Then they responded with their own creative urges that arose out of that discussion. Two is a symbol for dialog, an deep Torah study can only emerge where dialog and discussion take place.
