Kabbalat Humashim

Adat Shalom, Adar 7 5763, February 9, 2003

Members of the 6th and 7th grade classes in Adat Shalom's Torah school each received a specially inscribed copy of the Jewish Publication Society's Etz Hayim humash from their parents. Immediately following, participants studied the week's Torah portion and used TorahQuest to create Torah commentaries. This web site celebrates their creations.

What the Hebrew words mean

Kabbalah means receiving. (Kabbalat means receiving of. You might recognize the word from kabbalat shabbat, the prayer service for the receiving of shabbat.)

A humash (plural: humashim) is a collection of the first five books of the Torah, often with commentary. The word humash is related to the Hebrew word hamesh, which means five.
